Meeting of RCC Board, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The regular quarterly meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Board will hear a report by the RCC Secretary General on the activities of the organization’s Secretariat since May 2010 as well as the announcement for planned events. It will take place at RCC premises in Sarajevo. Additionally, the Board will decide on establishing an RCC Task Force on Culture and Society, which would promote regional cooperation on and support preservation of cultural heritage in South East Europe.

The RCC Board meets quarterly and is chaired by the RCC Secretary General. The Board provides the RCC with operational guidance and supervision. It consists of those RCC members contributing to the budget of the RCC Secretariat as well as the European Union, represented by the Troika, consisting of the EU Presidency, the European Commission and the Council Secretariat.

First Forum for South East European Women Entrepreneurs, Istanbul, Turkey

The First Forum for South East European Women Entrepreneurs, which aims to support women entrepreneurs who intend to expand and/or innovate their activities, intends to provide a platform for the exchange of experiences and good practices and promote further integration of women entrepreneurs’ networks in the region.

The event will be held under the auspices of the Government of the Republic of Turkey, and organized by the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Development Administration of Turkey (KOSGEB) and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The Forum is organized as a part of the project developed by the RCC Secretariat and UNECE on promoting women entrepreneurship in South East Europe.

Participants of the event, that include national women entrepreneurs associations as well as prominent individual women entrepreneurs, will discuss international experiences related to small and medium sized enterprise policy and women entrepreneurship.

International Forum on Higher Education Reform Foresight 2020, Dubrovnik, Croatia

This event is being co-organized by the Regional Cooperation Council Secretariat, the University of Zagreb and the University of Novi Sad, as a follow up of the biannual International Conferences on Higher Education (Novi Sad 2005, Dubrovnik 2007, and Sarajevo 2009). The Forum will provide a platform for an open discussion and raise questions which are important for the further development of the EU higher education area with emphasis on implications of the process to the Western Balkans region.

Regional Workshop on Democratic Policing: ‘Organizational and Managerial Issues in the Police’, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The event, organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), is part of a series of regional workshops aiming at disseminating the principles of the Guidebook on Democratic Policing, produced by the OSCE Strategic Police Matters Unit, with the participation of police experts from the entire OSCE region.

The broad objective of the workshop, which is to be achieved through expert discussions and the exchange of experiences, is to identify concrete steps to apply the good law enforcement practices, referred to in the Guidebook on Democratic Policing, into daily police work.

The event is expected to gather senior officers of the ministries of the interior and police leaders in South East Europe, with experience in the preparation of policies and strategies and their implementation, as well as representatives from civil society.

First Sustainable Energy Development Regional Initiative Task Force meeting, Trieste, Italy

This meeting, which will be organized by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat and the Central European Initiative (CEI) Executive Secretariat, will discuss issues relevant to fully profiling the initiative launched by the two organizations, consider past and ongoing sustainable energy projects of the members participating in the initiative, their plans for future as well as sustainable energy project proposals to be considered for support under the initiative framework. It will bring together representatives of ministries and relevant institutions from the RCC members from SEE and CEI members that officially expressed interest to participate in the initiative as well as representatives of the CEI Executive Secretariat and the RCC Secretariat.

Regional conference on role of parliaments in fight against poverty and social exclusion in EU integration context, Belgrade, Serbia

The conference will deliberate aligning of EU candidate and potential candidate countries’ national legislation with that of the European Union on the issues of social inclusion and fight against poverty. It will be co-organised by the Regional Cooperation Council Secretariat and the National Assembly of Republic of Serbia, with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

International conference on digitalization and sustainability of public service media in South East Europe, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The international conference “Addressing Europe’s Digital Divide: Towards Sustainable Public Service Media in South East Europe” aims to demonstrate the importance of investing in sustainable and independent public media in South East Europe to avoid a digital divide as Europe moves towards analogue switch-off in 2012.

The event will be held on 14-15 October 2010 in Sarajevo, under the auspices of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the European Broadcasting Union.

The goal is to deepen the understanding between the governments and the broadcasters on a need to have viable public service media in the region ready to meet the objectives of the analogue switch-off and provide the citizens with high quality public service function.

The conference will be opened by RCC Secretary General Hido Biščević and EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre. Other participants will include senior government officials and directors general of EBU members from South East Europe. Representatives of the regulators, as well as of relevant international organizations, are also expected to take part in the event.
