Promoting stability in Southeast Europe remains important priority, say RCC and NATO officials

BRUSSELS/SARAJEVO – Southeast Europe remains a NATO priority in terms of strengthening the security in the region, said Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, the Alliance’s Deputy Secretary General, at a meeting with the RCC Secretary General, Hido Biscevic, in Brussels yesterday.

The two officials discussed the fields of common interest for the two organizations and the ways they can work together in promoting regional projects that support stability and prosperity in Southeast Europe.

Secretary General Biscevic informed Ambassador Bisogniero about RCC projects aimed at strengthening security and reducing risks in disaster prevention and protection, including setting up a regional firefighting centre and working on a regional insurance facility for natural disasters.

Secretary General Biscevic stressed the need to keep Southeast Europe high on the agenda of the international community, to avoid stalemate and instability and create a climate conducive to social and economic development.

The two officials met after the opening of the RCC Liaison Office in Brussels, which will serve as a link between the countries of Southeast Europe and Euro-Atlantic institutions.
