Securing the Future: Insights from the 8th Regional Security Coordination Conference.

In November 2023, Rome became the focal point for addressing security challenges in the Western Balkans, hosting the 8th Regional Security Coordination Conference. Themed "Secure the Future: Building Resilience through Collaboration," this event brought together over 100 participants and 55 speakers across two days of discussions. The conference, organized by the RCC, the International Relations Service of the Office for Coordination and Planning of Police Forces of the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, aimed to foster dialogue and cooperation among Western Balkan economies, Italy, EU member states, and international organizations.

Reflecting on the SecuriMeter 2023 findings, the conference delved into various themes that are important for the security landscape of South-East Europe, particularly the Western Balkans. Issues such as violent extremism, organized crime, migration, and cybersecurity were at the forefront of discussions. Additionally, the conference broke new ground by exploring the role of human security and integrating artificial intelligence and innovative technologies into policing efforts.

A significant highlight of this year's conference was the thematic panel dedicated to regional exchange between the Ministries of Interior and Ministries of Justice of the Western Balkans. This panel, focusing on leaders of working groups for Chapters 23 and 24, laid the groundwork for enhanced regional cooperation, showcasing a commitment to collaborative problem-solving and shared security initiatives.

The 8th Regional Security Coordination Conference has underscored the importance of security cooperation, innovation, and foresight as the Western Balkans navigate complex security challenges.

The accompanying Post-Conference Report offers a detailed summary of the discussions, providing insights into the security landscape, Western Balkans trends, and conference observations.
