Fourth Regional Conference on countering disinformation in the Western Balkans - “The Importance of Media Literacy”

The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), in partnership with The European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE) and with support from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is organizing The Fourth Regional Conference on Countering Disinformation in the Western Balkans, which will take place on 18 April 2023, at the heart of the EU's disinformation and hybrid threats operation centre (Hybrid CoE premises), in Helsinki.

The Conference dubbed “The Importance of Media Literacy” aims to continue building the proper narrative on understanding the hybrid threats and disinformation and increase awareness of its detrimental impact on various aspects of societal life in the Western Balkans. It will also help promote critical thinking and media literacy in the region and empower people to identify and combat disinformation more effectively. 

Through a combination of ex-cathedra, workshops, and practical lectures, the seminar will help attendees think differently and apply what they have learned in their respective fields. The event will follow the discussions from the third disinformation conference and aims to coordinate action among public entities and promote cooperation between different social actors, including government, private businesses, civil society, and media organizations. Overall, it would play an influential role in addressing the problem of disinformation in the Western Balkans and fostering a more informed and resilient society. 

The Fourth Regional Conference on Countering Disinformation in the Western Balkans will bring together key regional stakeholders and allow them to interact with EU experts in disinformation and hybrid threats, creating a unique opportunity to learn more.
