Speech by RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanovic at the “What Do We Ask of the Next Generation? Film, Democracy and Regional Competitiveness” discussion

RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanovic opened the discussion titled “What Do We Ask of the Next Generation? Film, Democracy and Regional Competitiveness”, held during the Second Regional Conference on Youth Cultural Cooperation, organised by the RCC’s EU-funded Western Balkans Youth Lab (WBYL) in cooperation with the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) on 19 August 2026.

Kapetanović spoke about the role of film and creative industries in giving young people opportunities to build sustainable careers, contribute to democratic societies and strengthen regional competitiveness. He stressed that young filmmakers should not be seen only as beneficiaries, but as partners whose ideas and perspectives can challenge stereotypes, expose deeper social barriers and help shape the region’s future.
