RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanović spoke to Forbes Montenegro ahead of the Western Balkans Digital Summit in Herceg Novi about the importance of regional digital cooperation and its tangible benefits for citizens and businesses. TThe interview focused on interoperable digital public services, interoperable digital identity solutions, cybersecurity, and alignment with EU standards, highlighting the region’s successful roaming agreement as an example of cooperation that delivers real results. Kapetanović emphasised that the Summit’s success should be measured not by political declarations, but by concrete projects, stronger institutional connectivity, and practical solutions that bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU Digital Single Market.
Mong other things, Kapetanovic said: "The value of regional cooperation lies in building systems that communicate with each other and comply with European standards, thus translating regional cooperation into tangible progress towards European integration.
The goal is that citizens of our region are gradually able to use electronic services in region’s partners with fewer additional procedures. This requires technical integration, but above all, trust among institutions, aligned rules and data safety. It will not happen overnight. It is, however, very important that we stop talking about it as some distant digital future. The work is already underway."
