The first meeting of the SEE Regional Network on Disaster Risk Insurance and Risk Sharing will take place on 19 November 2025 in Athens, organised by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and hosted by the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (HAIC).

This inaugural meeting marks an important milestone in strengthening regional cooperation on disaster risk insurance and risk sharing. It will provide a platform for members of the Network to exchange views on existing legal and regulatory frameworks related to disaster risk insurance, with a focus on current practices, identified gaps, and areas where regional cooperation can bring added value. The Network will also explore ways to bolster the region’s preparedness for natural hazards by promoting accessible and affordable disaster insurance for all citizens.

Participants in the meeting include presidents of insurance regulatory authorities and of insurance and reinsurance associations from across South East Europe region, or their high-level designated representatives.

The meeting will be opened by Harry Theocharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece; Umut Ergezer, Deputy Secretary General of the RCC; and Elina Papaspyropoulou, Director General of HAIC.

The SEE Regional Network on Disaster Risk Insurance and Risk Sharing was officially established by the RCC Board on 12 March 2025.
