Common Goal: Safe and Secure Western Balkans

We are working together towards more secure region, with efficient and transparent governance based on EU standards and values. Three-step approach aim at building regional cooperation on security, rule of law and good governance nexus as one of the major prerequisites for socio-economic recovery and reduction of the convergence gap with the EU.

 

Objectives

  • Strengthening role of parliaments in overall RCC activities
  • Achieving full synergy of economic reforms with security and rule of law to boost good governance based on a set of EU values
  • Providing political guidance to regional efforts in pursuing regional security cooperation and implementation of strategic goals in South East Europe and the Western Balkans
  • Enabling expert and technical support to existing parliamentary forums
  • Supporting regional actions in fighting corruption, boosting transparency, and judicial cooperation
  • Supporting regional efforts in fight against contemporary security challenges

Results

  • All-inclusive approach reached in pursuing regional cooperation goals in this area
  • Parliamentary dimension included into different sets of actions guided by the RCC
  • Security cooperation actions streamlined under one political umbrella
  • Judicial and rule of law regional cooperation streamlined as intrinsic part of overall context of socio-economic reforms
  • Justice, Home Affairs and Good Governance component included as an integral part of SEE 2030 strategy

Next steps


In the forthcoming period the RCC will:

  • Assist Conference of the Parliamentary Committees on European Integration/Affairs of the States Participating in the Stabilisation and Association Process in South East Europe (COSAP) and Parliamentary Assembly of the South East European Cooperation Process (PA SEECP) to gain in depth knowledge about ongoing activities in regional cooperation
  • Closely cooperate with Parliamentary Forum for Small Arms and Light Weapons- (SALW), the only international organisation for members of parliaments, specifically focused on reduction and prevention of SALW-related violence
  • Provide political support to regional efforts aimed at better control of SALW
  • Start mapping the most pressing security needs in the WB through IISG and help in providing a map of responses
  • Participate in regional efforts aimed at fighting corruption
  • Lead regional efforts in the field of judicial cooperation
