Sarajevo – Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Amer Kapetanović welcomed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, George Gerapetritis, to the RCC headquarters in Sarajevo today.

The meeting focused on regional cooperation in South East Europe, the European integration of the Western Balkans, the role of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), and the implementation of the South East Europe 2030 (SEE2030) Strategy.

The two officials also discussed the follow-up to the recent SEECP meetings in Sofia, where the leaders endorsed the RCC Annual Report and the SEE2030 Strategy Mid-Term Update, as well as opportunities to translate regional political commitments into practical initiatives and measurable results. Looking ahead, they also discussed Greece’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2027 and joint efforts to revive the “Thessaloniki momentum” and give renewed impetus to the European integration of the Western Balkans.

“Greece has been a steadfast partner of regional cooperation and a strong supporter of the RCC. This building itself reminds us that solidarity becomes meaningful when it is transformed into something lasting. The same principle guides our work: turning political commitments into practical results for the people of our region. Through SEECP, SEE2030 and the RCC’s regional programmes, we are building a more connected, resilient and competitive South East Europe, firmly anchored in our shared European future,” said RCC Secretary General Amer Kapetanović.

Minister Gerapetritis reaffirmed Greece’s strong commitment to regional cooperation and the European perspective of the Western Balkans. He commended the RCC’s work and its role in maintaining an inclusive regional platform, strengthening dialogue and delivering concrete results in areas of shared interest.

The Minister underlined the importance of the SEECP as the region’s most comprehensive political cooperation framework and welcomed the RCC’s contribution, as its operational arm, to implementing the political priorities agreed by the SEECP participants.

Kapetanović thanked Greece, a founding participant of the SEECP and an RCC Board participant, for its continued political and institutional support to the RCC and the wider regional cooperation agenda. He emphasised that the active engagement of RCC Board participants remains essential for the organisation’s ability to respond to emerging regional challenges and deliver tangible benefits to citizens and businesses.

The meeting took place at the RCC headquarters in the Building of Friendship between Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose post-war reconstruction was carried out with substantial financial support from the Greek Government. Opened in 2007, the building remains a lasting symbol of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
