Podgorica – Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Amer Kapetanović, met with Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajić today in Podgorica. 

The meeting focused on Montenegro’s 2026 Chairmanship of the Berlin Process, progress on the regional agenda, and preparations for the upcoming meetings and events leading to the Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit later this year. 

Among other upcoming Berlin Process events, Kapetanović and Spajić discussed three meetings contributing to the implementation of the RCC-coordinated Common Regional Market Action Plan: the Third Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, set to take place later this month in Žabljak; the Meeting of the Ministers of Economy; and the Western Balkans Digital Summit, to be held in October. The Green Agenda Ministerial, organised by the RCC in cooperation with the Government of Montenegro and GIZ through the Regional Climate Partnership, will be opened by Prime Minister Spajić and RCC Secretary General Kapetanović. 

“Montenegro’s Berlin Process Chairmanship comes at an important moment for the region. Our shared task is to turn regional commitments into concrete results that bring the Western Balkans Six closer together and closer to the European Union. The RCC remains fully committed to supporting Montenegro in delivering on the priorities of the Berlin Process and making this year’s agenda a success,” said Kapetanović. 

Prime Minister Spajić welcomed the RCC’s continued engagement and contribution to regional cooperation, underlining the importance of close coordination in delivering Montenegro’s Berlin Process priorities. 

Kapetanović highlighted the need to maintain momentum in the months ahead and focus on concrete outcomes from the upcoming ministerial meetings and the Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit, noting that Montenegro’s tangible progress towards EU membership reflects sustained efforts, commitment and reform. 

During his visit to Podgorica, Kapetanović also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović and EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, with whom he exchanged views on regional cooperation, Montenegro’s Berlin Process Chairmanship and the region’s progress on its European path.
