Western Balkans Six Biodiversity Strategic Plan 2030

Western Balkans Six Biodiversity Strategic Plan 2030

14 October 2025 | REPORT

The Western Balkans Six Biodiversity Strategic Plan 2030 (BSP) will provide a shared regional framework for conserving, restoring, and sustainably managing biodiversity across the Western Balkans Six (WB6). This document, currently being developed jointly by the RCC and IUCN, aims to translate globally agreed biodiversity goals and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 into actionable priorities tailored to the region’s ecological, socio-economic, and institutional contexts.

By fostering cooperation among the WB6, the BSP outlines five strategic goals: expanding and effectively managing protected areas; restoring degraded ecosystems; preventing species loss; integrating biodiversity into key sectors; and improving governance, knowledge, and financing.

The Plan sets out five strategic goals: expanding and effectively managing protected areas, restoring degraded ecosystems, preventing species loss, integrating biodiversity into key sectors, and improving governance, knowledge, and financing. Developed in two phases, the BSP promotes regional cooperation, coherent action, and stronger institutional capacity to build a nature-positive, resilient, and sustainable future for the Western Balkans by 2030.
