Zagreb - The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) organised the meeting of the Regional Working Group on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (RWG GAWB) in Zagreb on 27 August 2025.

Opening the meeting, Ivana Markovic Boskovic, RCC’s Senior Expert and Coordinator of the Green Agenda, highlighted that the meeting aimed to brief participants on the second GAWB Ministerial Meeting in Dubrovnik and agree, at technical level, on its deliverables, namely the consolidated revised version of the GAWB Action Plan and the way forward regarding the WB6 Climate Adaptation Roadmap, among others.

Facilitated by RCC, RWG members discussed in detail, at technical level, the revision process of the GAWB Action Plan, including other ongoing processes such as the 2024 Green Agenda for the Western Balkans Report of Implementation (GARI), the development of the GAWB Observatory, and upcoming work relevant to the circular economy, depollution, and protection of nature and biodiversity pillars.

Participants in the meeting included RWG GAWB members, the Standing Working Group on Regional Rural Development (SWG RRD), the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat (TCPS), the Energy Community Secretariat (EnCS), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the European Commission.

Established in April 2023 through the transformation of the former RWG on Environment, the RWG GAWB provides the operational framework necessary to effectively fulfil its mandate under the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans Action Plan. It serves as the core intergovernmental coordination platform, composed of senior representatives from the WB6 ministries responsible for climate and environment. It represents the backbone of the GAWB implementation process, ensuring technical coordination, facilitating regional dialogue and monitoring progress against the commitments of the Sofia Declaration.
