The Biodiversity Task Force of the Western Balkans (BDTF WB) was established in April 2024, building on and replacing the previous Biodiversity Task Force of the South East Europe format. This revision reflects the specific focus on the Western Balkans Six (WB6) region and strengthens its role as an advisory body on biodiversity to the Regional Working Group on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (RWG GAWB).
It also plays an important role in defining regional biodiversity objectives as well as in the process of development of the Green Agenda for Western Balkans (GAWB) and implementation in the area of biological diversity.
The Task Force contributes to strengthening regional cooperation and supports the Western Balkans Six (WB6) in advancing their commitments under key international and EU frameworks, including:

  • Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework under the Convention on Biological Diversity;
  • Green Agenda for the Western Balkans;
  • European Green Deal;
  • EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030;
  • relevant EU biodiversity legislation.
